Definition

An Accountant's Assurance Report is a document issued by an independent accountant who has been engaged to perform an examination or review of a company's financial statements. The report provides assurance to users of the financial statements that they have been prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) or another financial reporting framework, and that they are free from material misstatements or errors.

There are two main types of assurance reports: the audit report and the review report. An audit report is issued when the accountant has performed an audit of the company's financial statements in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS). An audit is a thorough examination of a company's financial statements, internal controls, and accounting systems to provide the highest level of assurance possible. In the audit report, the accountant will express an opinion on whether the financial statements present fairly, in all material respects, the financial position, results of operations, and cash flows of the company.
